Class Reviews
In our pen and ink technique class, students look at stunning artwork by several artists and illustrators. Students learn pen and ink techniques such as stipple, line drawing, hatch and crosshatch, learn how to create a range of values using these techniques and then create a their own artwork with pen and ink.
While teaching at 171 Cedar arts, I not only taught art appreciation to kids, but also let several oil painting classes to some wonderful ladies.
After 6 weeks learning about glass artists and how some pieces originally believed to be their works were actually fake, we enjoyed a competitive Christie’s auction with convincing fake money, revealing at the end who purchased forgeries. (gasp)
Here is another oil painting class taught in my home. It was the perfect night out!
During our Glass Artists class, parents are encouraged to take their children to the local Corning Museum of Glass where they can see many works by most of the artists we study. It’s a wonderful experience to see the artwork in person that students have become connected with.
While teaching older students, we cover drawing from life, shading, and drawing all kinds of important subject matter like flowers, reflective objects and folds.
“My greatest joy is hearing that my students want to continue learning about art, to go to the museums or the library and check out books on the artists we’re studying. To me, that is the highest compliment and result I can hope for - that my students develop a love for art, art technique and art history.” - Rebecca
