“I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”
Psalm 121:1-2
When we have nowhere to turn but the LORD, and when the ache of our fallen world brings us to our lowest, we are actually in good company. The Bible is filled with accounts of people who survived deep heartache and who were also living in obedience to the LORD.
When I am tempted to rebel against the day’s heaviness as if it should not be, these words bring me back to acceptance: Jesus says, “Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.” (1 Peter 4:12) These days are to be expected and it should not be a surprise.
